Our story

Button Learning is an educational technology company that was set up in 2015 by Fiona Button, whilst studying for an MSc in Educational Neuroscience at Birkbeck / UCL Institute of Education.

Button Learning was shortlisted for the Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Awards (one of only 10 businesses nationwide) and was part of the UCL Advances Ideas Accelerator in 2015.

On the basis of her dissertation research, in 2017 Fiona was selected as one of the winners in the annual Let Teachers SHINE competition, run by the SHINE Foundation, a prestigious award that recognises innovation in teaching across the UK.

We also won a place on The Young Academy’s education accelerator (Summer 2018 cohort), making connections with other start-ups focused on improving educational outcomes for all.

Since then, we have been developing our visual mnemonics into classroom-ready resources with the talented illustrator Rebecca Lea Williams. We are also developing the app of our spelling programme in partnership with software developers Qumodo, who are experts in user-friendly design and machine learning.

We are always looking for schools who want to test our resources or enrol in our pilot programme. If you want to radically improve your students’ spelling abilities today … get in touch!
